Custom Motocross Pants: Team MX Pants Built to Match the Jersey

The other half of the kit. Custom motocross pants from Run Moto Apparel are a 600D polyester shell printed from the same saved color profile as the jersey, leather or synthetic-leather inner-knee panels where the bike grips and burns, 4-way stretch at crotch and yoke for standing on the pegs, and a ratchet waist closure.

One kit, two fabrics

Custom motocross jersey and pants as one kit: why they print together

Mesh and 600D take dye differently; a kit that matches was printed as a kit

  1. Two fabrics, one profileThe jersey is 140–160 gsm mesh, the pants are 600D polyester. Under the calender each fabric takes sublimation dye at a different depth, so the same file printed on both without correction gives a jersey and pants that are almost, but not quite, the same red. We store the team's color profile per fabric and print a test strip on each.
  2. Two strips side by sideBefore bulk, the mesh strip and the 600D strip are laid next to each other and against the archived strip under a daylight lamp. The kit is approved as a pair, and both strips are filed under the team name so a mid-season reorder of pants alone still matches the jerseys already on the riders.
  3. One roster, one boxJersey and pants share the size sheet, the sponsor layout and the packing list, so rider 14 gets rider 14's jersey and rider 14's pants in the same bag.

Decide before the print file

Four decisions that shape custom motocross pants before artwork

Knee panel material, room for braces, waist and belt, and block; artwork comes after these. Each one has a wrong answer that shows up on the first lap.

Leather and synthetic-leather inner-knee panels side by side

Knee panel: leather or synthetic leather

LeatherSynthetic

Leather inner-knee panels take exhaust heat and tank grip longest and are the team-kit default. Synthetic leather is lighter, dries faster after washing and suits academy fleets that go through the machine every day.

Wrong choice Synthetic on a race team that grips a hot pipe all moto; leather on a rental fleet washed daily that never fully dries.
Knee brace inside brace-ready custom mx pants with the knee bent

Fit: standard or brace-ready

StandardBrace-ready

Brace-ready pants carry extra room through the knee and a longer pre-shaped knee so a knee brace sits inside without pulling the seat down.

Wrong choice Standard pants over braces bind at the knee and drag the waist down every time the rider stands.
Waist measured over a kidney belt before the size sheet is filled in

Waist and belt

Ratchet closureOver the belt

The ratchet closure sits flat under a kidney belt; the waist size is taken over the belt if the rider wears one, not over bare skin.

Wrong choice Waist measured without the belt, pants ride down on the pegs.
Youth and adult motocross pants blocks hanging together

Block: adult, youth or women's

AdultYouthWomen's

Youth pants are graded on a youth block with a shorter rise; women's pants on a women's block through the hip.

Wrong choice A youth rider in adult XS gets a rise too long and a knee in the wrong place.

Where a pant is loaded

Four load zones on custom motocross pants, and what each survives

A pant fails where the rider loads it: inner knee, crotch and yoke, knee, waist. Scroll the four zones; the drawing lights up the one you are reading.

WAIST YOKE + CROTCH KNEEKNEE INNER KNEE

Inner knee: heat and grip

The rider squeezes the tank and the exhaust side gets hot. The inner-knee panel is a separate piece of leather or synthetic leather sewn over the 600D shell, so the shell underneath never touches the pipe and the panel wears instead of the pant.

Crotch and yoke: stand and sit

Every lap the rider stands on the pegs and sits back a hundred times. A 4-way stretch panel at the crotch and across the back yoke lets the seat follow, so the waistband stays where the belt put it and the crotch seam is not the seam that carries the load.

Knee: bend and brace

The knee is pre-shaped for a bent leg, with room for a brace when specified, so the pant does not pull the seat down as the knee closes and the knee panel stays over the knee instead of sliding to the shin.

Waist: belt and ratchet

The ratchet closure adjusts in small steps and sits flat under a kidney belt; the waistband is cut to the size taken over the belt. When the rider stands, the yoke stretches and the waistband does not gap.

Separate piece, not a patch

Inner-knee panel: a separate piece, not a printed patch

The one place a printed shell cannot survive, and how the panel is built to take it instead

The shell prints well and wears well, but not under the combination of heat and grip on the tank side of the knee. So the inner-knee panel is a separate piece, cut from leather or synthetic leather in the leather workshop, and sewn over the shell rather than replacing it. The shell underneath keeps the print continuous around the panel, and the panel takes the wear.

Leather or synthetic is a use decision. Leather is the team-kit default because it takes exhaust heat longest. Synthetic leather is specified for fleets that are washed daily, because it dries faster and does not stiffen. The choice is written on the size sheet and is visible on the sample.

How to check itOn the sample, sit on the bike and squeeze the tank.
  • The panel sits fully over the contact area, no shell showing at the edge.
  • The stitching around the panel is a closed line with no loose end.
  • The print on the shell runs up to the panel edge without a gap.

Two fabrics, one lamp

Matching pants to the jersey: one strip test on both fabrics

The check that decides whether rider 14 looks like one kit or two orders

One profile per fabric. The team's color profile is stored once per fabric: one for the 140–160 gsm mesh, one for the 600D shell. Before printing, a test strip is printed on each fabric and both are laid against the archived strip from the approved sample under a daylight lamp.

Start ruleOnly when the mesh strip and the 600D strip match each other and the archive does either run start.

Pants reordered alone. The 600D strip is printed against the archive again, so the new pants match the jerseys already on the riders. If a fabric lot has changed, the strip is re-tested on the new lot before the order is confirmed.

  • You receive a photo of both strips together before either run.
  • You keep both physical strips with the sample pair.

Two numbers per rider

Waist and inseam from the roster: how custom mx pants are sized

Most custom motocross pants problems are size-sheet problems; the sheet asks for two numbers per rider

  1. Waist over the beltThe roster asks for waist and inseam per rider. Waist is taken over the kidney belt when the rider wears one; the size sheet records which riders do.
  2. Inseam to the bootInseam is taken to the top of the boot so the leg opening sits inside the boot without stacking above it.
  3. Between sizesA rider between sizes is flagged and sized by fit preference, standard or brace-ready, not rounded up by default.
  4. Youth splitYouth riders are moved to the youth block and graded there; the size-run set proves the rise before bulk.
  5. Sign before bulkYou sign the sheet with production sizes filled in, and the pants are cut to it.
